Medicaid and Medicare

If you are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, you may be able to receive additional benefits that can help cover your healthcare costs. This is commonly referred to as "dual eligibility." Here are some of the benefits you may be able to receive:

  • Expanded coverage: Medicaid may provide additional coverage for services that Medicare does not cover, such as dental, vision, and hearing care.
  • Low or no-cost premiums: If you qualify for both Medicaid and Medicare, you may be eligible for assistance with paying Medicare premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.
  • Prescription drug coverage: Medicare Part D provides prescription drug coverage, and if you are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, you may receive additional assistance with paying for prescription drugs.
  • Home health services: Medicaid may cover some home health services that are not covered by Medicare.
  • Long-term care: Medicaid may provide coverage for long-term care services, including nursing home care, which is not covered by Medicare.

It's important to note that the benefits you may be eligible for will depend on your individual circumstances, such as your income, health status, and where you live. If you think you may be eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, you can contact your local Medicaid office or the Social Security Administration for more information.
